Professor Gideon Kwesigabo is an Associate Professor at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS). Prof Kwesigabo holds MD degree from Muhimbili University, a Master’s in Education for Primary Health care from Victorian University of Manchester, Masters in Epidemiology from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a PhD from Umea University in Sweden. Prof Kwesigabo has spent most of his time conducting research on HIV/AIDS, Maternal Health, Human Resource for Health and health systems. He has over 60 publications in peer reviewed journals and several technical reports.

Experience & Activities

Professor Kwesigabo is currently the Principal Investigator of the ‘Centre of Excellence for cardiovascular sciences project’ funded by the African Development Bank aiming at training of highly specialized human resource for primary, secondary and tertiary prevention of cardiovascular conditions in Tanzania. He is also the Principal Investigator of an NIH-FIC supported project ‘Transforming Health Professions Education in Tanzania (THET) which is a consortium of five Universities aiming at improving the quality of medical and nursing graduates in Tanzania.

Regarding other activities Professor Kwesigabo is a member of the Agha Khan University Ethical Review Board, a member of the Hubert Kairuki Memorial University Ethics Review Board and a member of the Presidential Special Committee of experts advising the Tanzanian President on matters of COVID 19 response. He is also the Editor in Chief of the East African Journal of Public Health.
